THE HALO FUND
The Elizabeth Elting Foundation has launched the Halo Fund, a multimillion-dollar initiative to provide comprehensive relief in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
THE HALO FUND IS STEPPING IN TO HELP BUILD THAT BRIDGE, CONNECTING CHARITIES AND PEOPLE.
“At a time like this, it’s impossible not to wonder how you can help. The economic and human fallout from this pandemic is obviously going to be immense, and the need to step up and help others couldn’t be more urgent. How we respond to this crisis, whether we answer this call to action with everything we have, will define us for years to come.”
- Liz Elting, Founder and CEO of The Elizabeth Elting Foundation
The rapid and terrifying transformation our world has undergone since the pandemic began hasn’t changed The Elizabeth Elting Foundation’s mission. Our first priority is, and will always be, identifying the divides between where we are and where we want to be, and then bridging them.
The Elizabeth Elting Foundation has launched the Halo Fund, a multimillion-dollar initiative to provide comprehensive relief in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Halo Fund is stepping in to help build that bridge, connecting charities and people that can support each other while providing financial backing for needed services.
While the challenge we’re faced with is daunting, The Halo Fund believes that together, we’re up to it. And we’re just getting started. We will continue to seek out areas where we can make a difference: helping vulnerable and underserved communities, lifting up those hit hardest by the pandemic and economic downturn, and supporting the healthcare and essential workers putting their lives on the line for us every day.
Together, we can build this bridge and make it to the other side.
Your interest and support is deeply appreciated. We hope you will join us in this mission, because we are stronger together than we ever could hope to be apart.
THE HALO FUND IS WORKING ALONGSIDE THE FOLLOWING ORGANIZATIONS TO COMBAT THIS CRISIS
The Campaign Against Hunger is a non-profit organization and one of NYC’s largest emergency food programs that works vigorously to end hunger in the community. They provide emergency food, assistance with enrollment in publicly-supported health insurance, and are Brooklyn’s only community focused urban garden.
As of the week ending April 11th, TCAH had served 94,699 individuals and provided enough food for 852,291 nutritious meals. They have mobilized resources to reach the hardest hit in our communities, making stops throughout Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx bringing food to families that are alienated and sheltering at home. Overall, they have seen a 240% increase in daily distribution and they are running out of staples they typically provide.
100% of funds donated by the Foundation will be going directly towards food for those in need at The Campaign Against Hunger.
Approximately 120 million people in the U.S. have one or more pre-existing cardiovascular diseases, which appears to place them at higher risk for experiencing complications of the virus.
To minimize COVID-19’s impact on the nation’s public health, the American Heart Association has activated its full organizational strength to combat the spread of the virus and address the vulnerability of heart and stroke patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and underserved populations.
On top of AHA’s efforts, the Foundation will be providing 75 self-monitoring blood pressure devices and educational information to support patients at their women’s shelter, Susan’s Place. Susan’s Place serves 200 medically and mentally frail women in Bronx, NY.
The Do Good Auto Coalition (DGAC) was launched in response to COVID-19 in order to facilitate and highlight the innovative and inspiring ways that auto dealers are banding together to make a difference in this era.
By connecting local charities and organizations with local auto dealers, their network of participating dealers have vehicles and personnel ready to assist anything from delivering necessary food and equipment to getting first responders to work safely.
With a sponsorship from the Foundation, DGAC will be volunteering to deliver supplies where they are most sorely needed. The DGAC will handle the logistics of delivering food from Rescuing Leftover Cuisine to TCAH, in addition to its ongoing work facilitating rides and delivering meals, medications, PPE, and other urgently needed supplies in local communities.
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine’s goal is to help the hungry by rescuing and donating leftover food to homeless shelters. Millions of people around the globe are unable to get access to food, while countless meals are thrown away each day.
During this crisis, restaurants have plenty of leftover food and supplies that goes to waste. Our donation will result in 200- 500 pounds of food for local food banks and homeless shelters. This is based on the roughly 15 pickups per day of this size being arranged with DGAC. Overall, this effort would rescue 122,000 meals for the hungry on average.
