The NWSL And Hostile Workplaces
It has hardly been a banner year for women’s sports.
The ongoing collapse of USA Gymnastics under the weight of its own refusal to prioritize the safety of its athletes by keeping serial predator Larry Nassar in its employ despite repeated reports of abuse has only accelerated following Simone Biles’ Olympic struggles and subsequent statements that the scars of Nassar’s abuse contributed to her inability to perform. Biles, arguably one of the most visible athletes on Earth, has a uniquely large platform among women athletes; her public calling-out of the organization that trained her has trained all eyes on the abuse of women and girls it has long tolerated.
