Women At The Bottom Of The List

So, the number of women running Fortune 500 companies is at an all-time high.

Fortune, which, like Forbes, publishes annual rankings, took a moment to trumpet this achievement; how remarkable it is that so little spectacle surrounds these women, that women leaders were finding stability and staying-power at the top, with acceptance of women as CEO candidates only growing. This is all true; we’re no longer in an era where a woman becoming CEO of a truly major company is considered big news, nor are there so few women at the top as to make them somehow emblematic of women as a class. It’s also true, and worth recognizing, that having women in top leadership roles expands opportunities for women throughout the entire organization; this column has covered that extensively.
