Finding The Good In The Bad Year
Far be it from me to rattle off the struggles of these last twelve months. You were there. We all were. Between the apocalyptic march of the news and the endless days and paradoxically brief months, time seemed to twist around itself as we waited. For progress, for a vaccine, for something to give us a sense of hope that was all too hard to find. I took my comfort in how well New York City got the virus under control, but even then, Broadway was still closed and visits with friends, if they happened at all, were few and far between. Now, in the height of winter, we’re struggling even here. Once again, the city has quieted, with bated breath and the hope that we can soon let out a collective sigh of relief.
But ‘tis the season, yes? The one-two punch of big winter family-focused holidays followed by the birth of the new year offers a unique opportunity in this, our annus horribilis, to not only reflect on what we’ve been through, but to inflect those memories in new ways.
